How the advisor decides
The advisor works the way an experienced builder would: start from what the machine is for, decide which component carries that workload, allocate the budget accordingly, then check the rest of the build does not undermine it. Every recommendation below comes with the reasoning attached, so you can disagree with it where your priorities differ.
Purpose decides the allocation
- Gaming — the graphics card carries the workload, so it takes the largest share.
- Streaming — encoding needs headroom beyond the game, so core count rises in priority.
- Editing — processor, memory capacity and fast storage all matter more than raw GPU speed.
- AI — VRAM capacity is a hard limit, so it outranks nearly everything else.
- Productivity — responsiveness comes from the CPU and storage, not the graphics card.
Where the advice is conservative
Power supply and storage are deliberately not skimped on. A weak PSU is the one component that can damage others when it fails, and a slow boot drive makes an otherwise strong build feel sluggish every single day. Both are cheap insurance.
Sanity-check the result

They share an engine. The planner shows the raw budget split; the advisor adds per-component reasoning and scores the result against each purpose, so you can see why each part was chosen.
Is this actually AI?
No, and we would rather say so. It is a deterministic model built from hardware data and sensible allocation rules - which means it is consistent and explainable, rather than plausible-sounding and occasionally wrong.
Should I follow the recommendation exactly?
Treat it as a well-reasoned starting point. Local pricing, current sales and parts you already own will all shift the right answer, and the reasoning shown lets you make those swaps deliberately.
What if my budget is too low?
The advisor will tell you when a configuration does not fit. Below roughly $700 a console or a good used system generally offers better value than a new build.
