How your build is scored

A single number cannot describe a computer, because different work rewards different hardware. The score above rates your build separately for four use cases, then combines them — a machine that scores 90 for gaming might score 55 for AI work, and both figures are true.

What each category weighs

  • Gaming — leans heavily on the graphics card, with the processor and memory speed mattering more at lower resolutions.
  • Content creation — rewards CPU core count, memory capacity and fast storage for scrubbing timelines.
  • Streaming — needs headroom beyond the game itself, so it favours more cores and a modern hardware encoder.
  • AI and productivity — dominated by VRAM capacity, then by GPU compute and system memory.

Balance beats any single component

A flagship graphics card behind a weak processor scores worse than a balanced mid-range pairing, because the score reflects usable performance rather than the sum of parts. The parts people underestimate

Memory speed and storage type barely appear on spec sheets but change how a system feels. Slow memory holds back CPU-limited games; a mechanical boot drive makes a fast machine feel slow at every step. Both are cheap to fix relative to their effect.

What the score is not

It is a modelled comparison, not a benchmark. It does not know about your cooling, your case airflow, your monitor or your drivers — all of which affect what you actually experience. Use it to compare configurations, not to predict an exact frame rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good build score?

Above 80 is a strong current-generation build for its category. 60-80 is solid mainstream. Below 50 suggests either ageing hardware or a significant imbalance between components.

Why is my gaming score higher than my AI score?

AI work is dominated by VRAM capacity rather than raw speed. A card that games beautifully with 12 GB may be unable to load a model that a slower 24 GB card handles comfortably.

Does memory speed really affect the score?

Yes, particularly for gaming and particularly on Ryzen. Moving from 4800 to 6000 MT/s is a measurable gain in CPU-limited titles, and it helps 1% lows more than averages.

Should I upgrade the lowest-scoring category?

Only if you actually do that kind of work. A gamer with a low AI score has lost nothing. Upgrade the category that matches how you use the machine.
